How to Care for a Hacky Sack for Longer Life

Why care matters

Regular play wears shells and shifts fill. Good care keeps leather, faux leather, or cotton flexible and the fill even — so the bag stays grippy, flight-true, and hygienic for daily use.

Cleaning

Match the method to the material:

  • Leather: damp cloth only; skip harsh cleaners that dry the hide
  • Faux leather: mild soap solution, then dry thoroughly
  • Cotton: gentle hand wash in lukewarm water with mild soap

Avoid the washing machine unless the maker says yes — spin cycles can clump fill.

Drying

  • Air-dry; skip radiators and harsh sun that crack materials
  • Rest on a towel and roll occasionally for even drying
  • Blot damp fill and finish in a ventilated spot

Proper drying prevents mould and odour.

Material upkeep

  • Leather: thin coat of leather balm against cracks
  • Faux leather: occasional damp wipe for dust
  • Cotton: knead now and then so fill stays even

Storage

Dry place; not crushed under heavy kit; breathable cloth pouch for long idle periods — not sealed plastic.

Checks and repairs

Inspect seams; restitch loose spots early; small tears with suitable fabric glue; knead to redistribute fill.

When to replace

Seams that fail repeatedly, brittle shells beyond repair, or lost/clumped fill that ruins flight — a fresh bag restores control. Browse replacements in our shop.

Closing

Clean, dry, condition, store, and fix small issues early. Follow those habits and your footbag stays game-ready for seasons of training and circle play.
